Before transferring to Ole Miss, one of my professors surprised me with a book, “The Education of a Lifetime” by Dr. Robert C. Khayat. The more I read, the more I admired Dr. Khayat’s incredible courage, passion, and determination. I realized that without him, our University would not be what it is today. Dr. Khayat’s tenacity and ability to bring out the best in others led to unprecedented success for Ole Miss. Under his tenure, we were named a Phi Beta Kappa chapter and established the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, Croft Institute for International Studies, William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation, and so much more. Dr. Khayat’s memoir solidified my decision to become a part of the Ole Miss family. His story instilled in me a deep appreciation for our university’s history, a desire to serve Ole Miss, and to always strive for excellence.

“Don’t settle for mediocrity. Don’t be satisfied with ok. Demand excellence from yourself.”
-Dr. Robert C. Khayat
