FAQs

What do I need to know about Freshman Orientation?
Orientation sessions will now be offered online. The freshman orientation fee was reduced to $80 per student. Refunds are being issued to students who were previously registered and paid a higher amount (refunds are also being issued for all overnight and guest fees). Please understand that this will be a manual and individual process and will take us a few weeks to complete. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to issue these refunds.

How do I sign up for Freshman Orientation?
We’ve communicated this information to all admitted students, but you can also find more information at Ole Miss Orientation. Spots are filling up quickly, so please encourage your students to register today in their myOleMiss portal. Students must pay the housing application fee and submit health forms prior to registering. You can email any orientation related questions to orientation@olemiss.edu.

How do I maximize my opportunities for Financial Aid?
All seniors who have not yet done so are encouraged to complete the 2020-2021 FAFSA and, if Mississippi residents, the State Aid Application. Students can view their awards and outstanding requirements (such as FAFSA verification) through the online award notification in the myOleMiss portal. Although most merit scholarships have been offered at this time, need-based aid (including some institutional awards like the Red & Blue Scholarship and the Ole Miss Opportunity Scholarship) is still available. If students need to submit any documentation for processing, they should fax it to 1-662-915-1164 or mail it to:

The University of Mississippi
Office of Financial Aid
P.O. Box 1848
257 Martindale Student Services Center
University, MS 38677-1848

Who can I call with questions about Financial Aid?
The Office of Financial Aid is happy to assist students by phone (1-800-891-4596) or email finaid@olemiss.edu while our staff continues to work remotely due to social distancing recommendations. Students should check their UM-issued email account @go.olemiss.edu for important communication and be sure to use that same email address when emailing the Office of Financial Aid. If a student feels that their family has been financially impacted by COVID-19, please have them reach out to the Office of Financial Aid directly with any questions.

I’ve already paid my housing deposit. What do I do now?
Room Selection is currently open for all students that paid their housing deposit. If they so choose, students will be able to change their room until July 22nd. For more information regarding the housing application, please visit Ole Miss Student Housing.

Many other universities are waiving ACT/SAT scores for admission. Is Ole Miss doing the same?
The University of Mississippi is committed to providing access to students from Mississippi and beyond. As such, multiple routes to admission are available as set forth by the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL), including some that do not require an ACT/SAT score. Historically, standardized test scores have been used for a variety of reasons including admission, scholarship consideration, and academic placement into courses. Students will still need to submit official ACT or SAT score reports for placement purposes before advisement at their Orientation session. Please see this complete list of freshman admissions requirements.

What’s the status of my application?
We continue to process applications and transcripts that are mailed to our office or submitted electronically. Please allow our office 2-3 weeks to process any new applications. The application for admission can be found at olemiss.edu/applynow. Transcripts can be emailed to admissions@olemiss.edu or mailed to:

Since I can’t visit campus, is there another way for me to talk to someone?
Although there is nothing quite like visiting the Ole Miss campus in person, we are now offering 30-minute, virtual information sessions with an Admissions staff member. These sessions cover topics such as campus life, admissions requirements, scholarships and financial aid, and academic majors. Students can register for a session online at Visit Ole Miss. Admissions Counselors have also been reaching out to your students in their territories offering a similar virtual chat option. You can find our virtual tour of campus also online at our visit site.

I was prepared to participate in an upcoming summer program. Are they canceled?
All on-campus summer programs, including the Apex Leadership Summit and the MOST Conference, have been canceled through August 1, 2020. Visit our Division of Outreach for information about online classes.

When will the fall semester begin? In an effort to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and to protect the health and safety of the campus community, the university has announced a modified fall 2020 academic calendar. Classes will begin on Monday, Aug. 24. The fall semester will conclude on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Final exams will be administered on Nov. 18-20 and Nov. 23-24. For more details, visit our Academic Calendar here.

Can I still try out for an organization on campus?
Students that are interested in cheer, dance, band, choir, etc., are encouraged to visit each group’s specific website for information pertaining to virtual auditions.

I’ve decided to no longer attend Ole Miss. How can I withdraw my application?
You can withdraw your application from the university by sending an email to admissions@olemiss.edu with your name and birth date. We can not accept your application to withdraw over the phone.
