One of the many great things about the University of Mississippi is the town of Oxford that surrounds it. Oxford has often been touted as the “Cultural Mecca of the South” and for good reason. The town is full of hidden treasures like Rowan Oak – home to literary legend William Faulkner and his family. Rowan Oak was originally built in 1844 and is just a short walk away from the Ole Miss campus. It stands on 29 acres and was William Faulkner’s private world, in reality and imagination. During my undergraduate career, I would sneak away between classes to grab coffee on the Square and stop by Rowan Oak for some peace and quiet time or to just reflect on my time as an Ole Miss student.
