As a transfer student from rural Walnut, Mississippi, I was seeking a sanctuary of comfort, traditions, and small-town hospitality. I found just what I was looking for in quaint Oxford, Mississippi, originally named for the Oxford “across the pond”. I fondly remember my first official visit to the historic downtown Oxford Square while in town for transfer orientation. While on the Square, I ate at what would become one of my favorite barbeque restaurants, got the full experience at YaYa’s Frozen Yogurt, and attended my first Ole Miss baseball game. Home to cute boutiques and family-owned shops, award-winning restaurants, and the Double Decker Arts Festival, Oxford is indeed the “cultural mecca of the South.” If a mixture of nationally ranking academic programs, excitement of SEC athletics, appreciation of the arts, and the friendliness of a small southern town is what you are searching for, Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi is the perfect place for you!
